Thanks for enquiring about booking an initial CASA medical with the Aviation Clinic. By paying close attention to the steps detailed below you will help us to help you by processing your medical application quickly and smoothly. Missing or incomplete information is the most common cause of delay in obtaining your medical certificate.
Step One: Book your appointment, allowing plenty of advance notice
We recommend you book appointments for the medical and the eye examination well in advance, ideally one month before you need the certificate, however you may be able to complete the steps below more quickly. The slowest part of the process below is usually obtaining the CASA Aviation Reference Number.
If you are already registered on SkyCert you can book your own appointment online. Ensure you select 'Initial' and 'CASA' checkboxes when booking.
If you are not registered on SkyCert, or if you can't find an appointment date, time or location to suit, email us at admin@aviation.clinic as we may have options which are not shown in the appointment book.
If you want to speak to someone directly text 021569882 to request a callback
Step Two: Obtain a CASA Aviation Reference Number (ARN)
You will need an ARN to be able to use the CASA Medical Records System (MRS). Information about how to obtain an ARN can be found at the following link:
Apply for an Individual ARN
Step Three: Create a MyCASA Account, if you don't already have one
You may have already created this through the process of obtaining an ARN above, however if you already had an ARN from some time ago, you may or may not have a MyCASA account. The following link takes you to guidance about how to create a MyCASA account: Create a MyCASA Account
Step Four: Complete your medical certificate application on the Medical Records System (MRS)
When you log in to MyCASA the MRS will be one of the options available to you on the homepage. You can download a user manual for MRS at the following link: MRS User Manual for Pilots and Air Traffic Controllers
Step Five: Pay the CASA Application Fee
The MRS system will prompt you to do this as part of the application process
Step Six: Have the blood tests taken
Email admin@aviation.clinic to notify us you need a blood test form for an initial CASA medical. Take this form to any local lab test collection centre (Labtests Auckland in the Auckland region or Southern Community Laboratories in Otago/Southland)
Step Seven: Book your appointment for the CASA Eye Examination
The eye examination is a requirement for all first time medicals. The examination must be done by a CASA-credentialed optometrist or a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist (DAO). These are different to the CAA-approved optometrists. The optometrist or eye specialist will charge you a fee for the examination which is separate to the CASA Application Fee, and the medical examiner's fee.
There are no CASA optometrists currently listed in NZ apart from Wellington, so the only options are the following ophthlamologists
Otago/Southland Region
There are currently no practicing CASA eye examiners in the Otago/Southland region. Please see options below in Auckland and Christchurch.
