A CAA medical certificate can be extended by 60 days past the expiry date. This is a useful option if it is difficult for you to get a medical appointment for a renewal prior to the expiry date. It is best to request extensions at least a couple of weeks prior to the expiry date, because the extension must be issued before the medical certificate expires. The process for extensions is quick and easy and does not require a medical appointment.
We do not charge anything for extensions if you complete the subsequent medical with the Aviation Clinic. If you do not book an appointment with us the fee will be $85 incl GST
If you are already registered on SkyCert the process is quick and easy
- Log in to Skycert
- On the Dashboard page in the box titled 'Medicals' click on 'Start New Application'
- Complete the medical application form, save, then 'sign'
- Pay the CAA Application Fee online. Note the application fee is only paid once, at the time of the extension. It does not need to be paid again before the medical appointment.
- Email admin@aviation.clinic to request your extension
If you are not yet registered on SkyCert then go to https://www.skycert.nz/user/signup There is a brief video there showing you how to register. If the confirmation email does not show up in your inbox then check your junk mail folder. Ensure you click on the link to confirm your email.
In addition to the steps 1 to 5 above you will need to ensure you do the following:
6. Give Aviation Clinic access to your SkyCert file:
To do this, first, go to your ‘Profile’ page in SkyCert then in the right-hand column ensure you select your aviation medical practice from the drop-down list for that field. Our practice name is Aviation Clinic. After selecting Aviation clinic, scroll down and click on the button for ‘Save Pilot’.
An alternative way to give access to your file on the system is to view the appointment list online and book an appointment with one of our doctors.
7. Provide an image of the front and back of your current medical certificate, either by uploading it to your medical application on SkyCert, or email it to admin@aviation.clinic
